Over the last year and a half Nick Ray, a Lead Bridge Inspector and UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Pilot at ARE, has played an integral role in the development of the UAS program for rail bridge inspections. Nick operates sUAS (small UAS) as a tool in routine bridge inspections, with over 100 bridges inspected. He has also performed multiple inspections utilizing drones and remote sensing on complex bridges, including the Ohio River bridge, which he has inspected twice over the last 1.5 years. The use of sUAS for inspecting complex bridges has enabled Nick and ARE to provide higher-detailed inspections in a shorter amount of time while keeping the inspectors safely on the ground.
Join ARE’s CEO, Dave Anderson, and Nick Ray as they take a deep dive into the benefits of UAS utilization for rail bridge inspections. Look for them at the technical sessions during the AREMA Annual Conference in September, presenting, “Complex Bridge Inspection with Small Unmanned Aerial Systems.”
