When oversized cargo must be transported, railroads conduct clearance analyses to ensure these specialized loads can travel safely. If the route includes bridges, engineers also verify structural forces and capacity before the train moves. Because this process can be time-consuming when performed manually, ARE developed a software tool to streamline it. Engineers can "build" a car and train configuration that matches the proposed load, select a route, and simulate the train’s movement across bridges. The resulting summary report simplifies the go/no-go decision and significantly reduces the time from shipping request to delivery.
