GIS Technician

Compensation: Dependent upon experience

Employment type: Full-time preferred

The GIS Technician will work on large scale GIS projects, assist with the processing of UAS collected data, and build/maintain online mapping products.  The technician will work closely with the Lead GIS Analyst and UAS Team. ARE provides aerial data for many mapping and inspection applications including but not limited to: topographic survey with volumetric, infrastructure, construction, coastal erosion monitoring, and ecological assessments with 2D and 3D mapping.


  • Extensive work experience in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, GlobalMapper)
  • Experience with processing UAS derived data (Metashape, Pix4D)
  • Deep understanding of photogrammetry
  • Experience visualizing, editing and processing LiDAR data
  • An advanced understanding of coordinate systems and datums
  • Experience building and maintaining online maps and Story Maps (ArcGIS Online)
  • Understanding of a wide range of data formats (GIS and CAD)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

  • Very comfortable working with technology and a strong interest in learning new skills
  • Basic knowledge of scripting and query language (Python, SQL)

Preferred Skills and Capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • GIS certifications
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification is a PLUS
  • Experience flying fixed-wings or multi-rotor systems
  • Fieldwork in challenging environments
  • Surveying experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology.
  • Experience in Photography & Videography
